Why follow a 1200 Calorie Diabetic Diet?

Some people find it helpful to follow a diet to limit their intake of carbohydrates and other foods which can cause problems with blood sugar levels.

A 1,200-calorie diet requires that you stick to this calorie count while eating the right types of food; but how exactly you follow the regime is up to you.  It's likely that following a regime with so few calories will be advised by your doctor or dietician if you're suffering from Type 2 diabetes.

Any diet followed should always be agreed with your health care practitioners and dietician.

You may wish to work with your dietician to create a personalized menu plan that works in with your own preferences and requirements.

Alternatively, you can buy a number of diabetic cookbooks which would allow you to work out a menu plan of your own that sticks to the required calorie limitations.  This has the advantage of allowing you to incorporate favourite meals or snacks.
