Pilchard Flan

Heather's Pilchard Flan recipe

This is a tasty standby that you can cook quickly.

Ingredients

  • 7½ oz can of pilchards
  • 1 small onion
  • 2 eggs
  • ¼ pint of milk
  • 1oz grated cheese
  • Salt and pepper
  • One prepared flan case

How to Make the Flan

  1. Mash the pilchards
  2. Chop onion and mix together with pilchards
  3. Beat the eggs and milk together
  4. Add salt and pepper
  5. Mix well and pour into baked flan case
  6. Sprinkle with a little cheese

Bake for 30 minutes at 200 degrees F.  Then remove flan ring and cook for a further 10 minutes.

This can be served hot or cold and is great with baked or new potatoes and fresh salad or steamed vegetables.

Hint

Although I often cheat and used a pre-baked flan case, making your own pastry from half white, half wholemeal flour and baking it blind (for about 20 minutes) would be a far healthier choice.

However, this is packed with goodness - as the pilchards contain Omega 3 which has been shown to be so good for us.
